On Thursday, November 5, 2009, the Exchange Club of Washington County hosted its 2nd Annual Law/Fire/EMT appreciation banquet at the Washington EMC civic room. Like last year, this year’s event was a success and the room was full of devoted police officers, firefighters, EMT’s, judges, and probation officers. The event was started off by the Exchange Club of Washington County President, Stacy Kitchens, welcoming the guest. The Cub Scout Pack 74 presented the colors, and the Georgia District Exchange President, Bill Bailey lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Exchange members Joseph and Mary McKinnon then introduced all of the agencies represented at the event. The guests were then treated to a BBQ supper. Everyone then had the pleasure of listening to our special guest speaker, Howard Sills, Sheriff of Putnam County followed by the presentation of the nominees from the local law and fire departments. This year’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year went to Patrolman Robbie Roberson of the GA State Patrol. The Fire Fighter of the Year was awarded to William Moats of the Sandersville Fire Department. The Exchange Club of Washington County would like to thank every one of its officers and firefighters for making Washington County a better place to live. More information on this event will be included in our December edition of the 411 Exchange newsletter.

The Exchange Club of Washington County continues to help in the nationwide fight against child abuse with a recent donation of Time Out Teddy bears to the Davisboro Fire Department. Time Out Teddy was created for the National Exchange Club to be a warm, cuddly friend that can serve as a calming tool for a child to hold in a time of crisis. The bears also help firefighters, EMT’s, and law enforcement officers to better communicate with children who are involved in a tragic situation. The Exchange Club provides Time Out Teddy bears free of charge to all local agencies serving children who have been abused, neglected, or traumatized. Each bear is packaged in protective plastic to keep them clean and ready for use in law enforcement and rescue vehicles.
